Vegas Teacher Assaulted - Nicholas Colotta, 40, was booked into the Clark County Detention Center, according to a statement from the Metropolitan Police. He faces charges of sexual assault or exploitation of a child under 14 with substantial physical or mental injury and lewdness with a child under 14, court records show.

Kolota teaches eighth-grade literature and seventh-grade history at the Democracy Prep Academy on the Agassi campus, 1201 W. Lake Mead Blvd., according to the school's website. A photo of Colotta on the school's website showed him smiling and holding a hat with the school crest.

A school spokesman said Kolota was fired Thursday after the school learned of the ongoing investigation and that the school was not notified by police if the allegations involved a student.

"We are deeply disturbed by these very serious allegations," the spokesman said in a statement. “We immediately finished off the man while the police began their investigation. We will do everything we can to support their investigation. We encourage anyone with information that could assist investigators to contact LVPD. We are here 24/7 to support our investigators, families and staff during this difficult time."

Additional information about Colotta's arrest was not immediately available. He remained in custody Thursday with bail set at $50,000, court records show.

Year Old Eldorado High School Student Arrested For Sexually Assaulting, Attempting To Kill Teacher

LAS VEGAS (KLAS) – A 16-year-old Las Vegas high school student accused of trying to kill his teacher last week choked and punched the girl multiple times before sexually assaulting her, the police said.

Jonathan Martinez Garcia, 16, is being treated as an adult due to the nature of the charges. He faces 15 charges, including attempted murder, sexual assault and kidnapping. Nine more charges were added on Monday.

The teacher told police that Martinez Garcia came into the classroom "to see what assignments she was missing from her class," police wrote in a report provided Tuesday by the 8 News Now I-Team.

The teacher said she and Martinez Garcia moved to her desk and they were talking about his missing homework and grades when she felt herself choking, police said. Police believe the high school student used a computer cable to strangle her, documents state.

At one point, Martinez-Garcia grabbed the teacher's back hair and hit him with an object, forcing her to pass out, police said.

The teacher remembers waking up alone in the room. Martinez-Garcia apparently came back into the room and punched her in the face, police said.

The teacher "asked Jonathan repeatedly why he was 'doing this' to him," police said. The student responded that while he really liked that teacher, he "didn't like teachers" and was "getting revenge," police said.

Martinez Garcia also called a parent during the incident, telling the teacher, "You can't die already, hurry up," the teacher told police.

The teacher said she played dead several times to get Martinez Garcia to leave, police said. A staff member later found the teacher under the shelf.

When he spoke to detectives, Martinez Garcia said he received scratches on his arm from a cat, police said. The student also told police that he tried to sexually assault the teacher, "but he 'stopped' himself."

According to reports, Martinez Garcia also performed a sexual act in front of the teacher, telling police they would find his DNA on her.

On Tuesday, it was determined that the boy will be evaluated by at least two doctors to determine his medical condition before further court proceedings take place.
